New Version of Syahan nga Pakli
igliwatI believe that it is time that we change the header of our Main Page (Syahan nga Pakli). I suggest this alternate version. Estudyante 05:56, 27 Abril 2009 (UTC)
- Maupay gad pero waray man problema hiton yana nga pan-igbaw (header). Ngan usa pa, iton magkadirudilain nga mga wikipedia ha Pilipinhon nga yinaknan mayda pagka-indibidwal han ira header (kitaa an Sinugboanon, Kapampangan, Pangasinense, Iluko ngan Zamboangahanon nga Chavacano komo pananglitan). Iton gin-suherir nga alternatibo baga man hin nagsusubad-subad hiton Tinag-alog nga wikipedia. --Harvzs 06:48, 27 Abril 2009 (UTC)

On the English Wikipedia, we started a project called TAFI. Each week we identify underdeveloped articles that require improvement. Our goal is to use widespread collaborative editing to improve articles to Good article, Featured article or Featured list quality over a short time frame.
This is all about improving important articles in a collaborative manner, and also inspiring readers of Wikipedia to also try editing. We think it is a very important and interesting idea that will make Wikipedia a better place to work. It has been very successful so far, and the concept has spread to the Hindi Wikipedia where it has been well received.
We wanted to know if your Wikipedia was interested in setting up its own version of TAFI. Please contact us on our talk page or here if you are interested.--Coin945 (talk) 17:48, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
Question on the animal name convention
igliwatAs part of intellectualization of the language, by making Waray flexible to describe towards non-native and non-endemic flora and fauna.
Borrowing - borrowing is very handy especially on anals which have no counterparts (i.e. Oso, Okapi etc...)
Creating a new name by description - (Elepante nga asyano etc...)
Neologism - I do not prefer this but some people may opt this one (e.g. haribon etc...)
Question is, Waray, unlike English has a more flexible word order.
Oso nga itom = Itom nga oso
Since they are essentially the same, what convention could we make to prefer one over the other. Oso nga itom stresses that this is a bear species while itom nga oso stresses character which is more conventional towards english translation and is more common but presents a problem on searchability.
Local name vs Family name
Bugsok for example is usually referring towards Philippine deers but in general is applicable towards any deer species within the family. My understanding here is to mimic English wiki, use it as general then make other species be descriptive.
Deer => bugsok Philippine deer => bugsok pilipinhon
"Model language" In cases of borrowings, usually english, and spanish is available. But on newer things usually they are described in english.
e.g. Pronghorn, Cougar, Jackal etc...
However, on some instances, Filipino (tagalog) may present an alternative
e.g. Paroot (Northern Luzon Giant Cloud Rat)
On my understanding, we could potentially use these terms which are familiar towards the speakers within the country. In bird groups for example, they want to show an endemic bird usually they are described into the source language if they are not available in that language.
