With the support of his constituents, he submitted to President Elpidio Quirino a proposal to convert Barrio Sto. Nino into a separate municipality. Thus, on July 22, 1949, Executive Order No. 247 was signed by his Excellency the President, creating the municipality of Marabut in honor of the late congressman Serafin Maarabut who was a native of Basey, Samar. Originally, Marabut was consisted of four Barrios and sixteen Sitios. Ysidoro M. Ferreras was elected as the first Municipal mayor, with Engacio A. Amantillo as the first Municipal Vice-Mayor.
During the encumbency of Mayor Macario T. Ferreras, a son of Ysidoro M. Ferreras, some sitios were converted into Barangays. Thereby increasing the total component Barangays to ten (10).
In the early 80’s, Mayor Matusalem T. Ferreras, a son of Macario M. Ferreras, sought the endorsement of his friend and fellow Samarnon Jose A. Rono, then deputy Prime Minister and concurrently the Minister of the Interior Local Government, for the approval of his proposal to devide the bigger barangays of Marabut and convert the remaining sitios into Barangays. This very significant executive decision was again favourably endorsed and granted. Hence, the original ten component barangays increased to the present twenty four when H.E. President Ferdinand E. Marcos approved the subject proposal.
Henceforth, Marabut has produced sons and daughters who are equally committed to hold the dreams of their forefathers and turn them into magnificent realities.
Pacifico Jacuno, Sr. who hailed from Sta. Rita, Samar was a soldier during the American regime who was held in high regard for the work as he recognizer and leader of the guerrilla soldiers. He was married to Vicenta Gacita a daughter of Pinamintinan, and holds the distinction of being the first hero of this Barangay.
